Yazar çok otantik, masalsı ama bir o kadar da gerçekçi bir ortam kurmuş. İstanbul'un etnik çeşitliliğini, tezatlarını, tarihini çok güzel yansıtmış. Osmanlı tarihi üzerine doktora yapmış olan yazar gerçekten büyük bir birikime sahip.
Diğer yandan olay kurgusu bana bir polisiyeden beklediğim gerilimi ve heyecanı vermedi. Yashim umduğum gibi çıkmadı. Aklıyla değil rastgele iz sürüyordu.
İngilizcesini anlamak pek kolay değil, zira günümüzden farklı bir dönemde farklı ortamlarda geçiyor ve gaz lambasından yulara İngilizcesine pek rastlamayacağımız kelimeler kullanıyor tabi olarak. Yine de başka yorumlardan Türkçe çevirisinin pek başarılı olmadığını öğrendim ve İngilizcesini okuduğuma memnunum. İncelikli bir anlatımı var.
